Bokrijk

The Bokrijk Open Air Museum (BE) has for a number of years been focusing on craftsmanship and the cross-fertilization between historical and contemporary techniques of craftsmen and craftsmen.

During the 2019 edition of the Summer Festival, Sep Verboom and leatherworker Jean-Pierre Vandaele worked together on leather applications and presented their work process. They experimented with how leather reacts in combination with different types of binders. So they started to work with bone glue, gelatin, wood glue, beeswax,… They were inspired by each other, materials and history.

The results are floating tabletop sculptures. Made of natural tanned leather, molded into a hand shaped clay shape using bone / wood glue and nails.
